Hot Air Quarterly’s Spring Issue

Here’s a heads-up for fans of The Hot Air Quarterly: The Spring issue will be distributed the night of this month’s Art Hop, April 11. Editor Jim Dowling will be at Sue’s Java Cafe and I will be at The Shasta County Arts Council from 6 PM to 7 PM, handing out copies as long as they last. Any copies not claimed during this time will be left at Sue’s and the SCAC, but we’ve been finding that they don’t last long. So if you would like a copy, you might want to show up early. Copies will also be distributed earlier in the day to the library, and poet Sharon Brisolara will be distributing copies at Infinite Designs on Hilltop from 7:30 to 8:30. As always, copies are free, but if you would like to donate to the cause, money would go to increase our print run so that we can distribute more copies to those who would like them. The Hot Air Quarterly is a volunteer effort funded by staff and supporters.

The lead story this issue is from this talented young woman, Wistar Watts Murray, who was just accepted into Columbia University’s MFA program in creative writing. She’s brilliant and hilarious and we feel fortunate to be showcasing her work. (You really owe it to yourself to treat yourself to Wistar’s current blog entry via the link above.)

The cover photo is by the accomplished Mike Eichwald, whose striking photos have been exhibited in a number of venues in town. I would post it above, but my template for my blog software would cut off the top and bottom. (Yeah, I need to move away from iWeb to something more flexible, but right now I only have the time to write and post the blog itself. I’m slowly teaching myself Dreamweaver, but it could be awhile; so bear with me.) Once the issue is posted on the Shasta County Arts Council website, the photo will be available for viewing there.

Other contributors include Peter Wright, Larry Greco Harris, Roy Reddin, Sharon Brisolara, Kimberly Carlson, Sorca O’Connor, Jim Dowling and moi, with the latest installment of The Listener. (If anyone who hasn’t read earlier installments of The Listener would like them, please e-mail me at keswickhouse@earthlink.net and I’ll be happy to e-mail you either the chapters by themselves in Word or back issues of HAQ in pdf format.)

We hope to see you Saturday night! Viva literature!

P.S. The next installment of Crazy Good Fortune will be posted Friday.
